Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine. It follows an integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of illness and tries to maintain or reestablish harmony between the mind, body, and forces of nature. It combines a number of approaches, such as changes in lifestyle, herbal remedies, exercise, and meditation, to strengthen and purify the body and mind and increase spiritual awareness.

Ayurveda stresses the use of plant-based medicines and treatments.Hundreds of plant-based medicines are employed, including cardamom and cinnamon.Some animal products may also be used, for example milk, bones, and gallstones. Ayurveda also focuses on exercise, yoga, meditation, and massage. Thus body, mind, and spirit/consciousness need to be addressed both individually and in unison for health to ensue.

The body is massaged with small linen bags (bundles) filled with cooked Navara Rice, which is cooked in cow's milk and a specific herbal mixture. These bags are dipped in the same mixture and applied over the whole body of the patient. The bags are not too hot or too cold. After wiping the body with a dry towel, the medicated oil is again applied. The course is 14 days to 21 days. It is one of the most excellent forms of treatments to impart luster to the skin and nourishment for the body through the skin. It also cures various ailments.In this treatment, boiled njavara rice is held inside a linen cloth, which is made into a bundle. It is then soaked in milk and decoction and massaged by two therapists in a rhythmic motion. This treatment is good for muscular atrophy, rheumatism and joint pains and it nourishes the body.

Shirodhara is a form of Ayurveda medicine that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead (the 'third eye'). It was developed by vaidyas (practitionars of Ayurveda) in Kerala, India for use in sukhachikitsa (restorative therapy) and can be one of the steps involved in Panchakarma. The name comes from the Sanskrit words shiras 'head' and dhara 'flow'. The liquids used in shirodhara depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, or even plain water.Shirodhara has been used to treat a variety of conditions including eye diseases, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, greying of hair, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hearing impairment, tinnitus, vertigo, Ménière's disease and certain types of skin diseases like psoriasis. It is also used non-medicinally at spas for its relaxing properties. There are specialized forms of shirodhara called thyladhara, ksheeradhara, thakradhara and jaladhara.

Sirovasthi is the retention of warm medicated oil over the head for a certain amount of time. This oil is a prepared mixture of gingely oil,Staff Tree, castor oil, ghee, common milk, and medicated herbs like bala,winter cherry,black gram, castor plant, bacopa etc. There are special ways and methods in which the herbs and oils are boiled in order to extract their full medicinal properties. the therapeutic properties of the medicated oil acts on the person's brain and tunes up his central and autonomous nervous system. The brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and the sympathetic nerves receives the medicinal effects of the oil. As a result, various nerve disorders get mended and the mind gets relieved from conflicts and stress.
